supporting parents today, strengthening children’s tomorrow

At The Breath Between, we begin with a simple truth: caregiver wellbeing is central to pediatric wellbeing.

Welcome

Our Mission - The Breath Between provides comprehensive support for parents of hospitalized and medically complex children, affirming that caregiver wellbeing is essential to their children’s quality of life.

If you’ve found us, you likely know, parents of medically complex or chronically hospitalized children operate within an extraordinarily high-stakes reality—managing your own fear, uncertainty, and exhaustion while simultaneously supporting your child’s treatment and ongoing emotional needs.

At The Breath Between we aim to lift up the fact that your (parents’) wellbeing is not something that should be seen as seconday; it is foundational to your child’s trajectory and happiness. The Breath Between was created to meet parents in the moments of overwhelm and sorrow. To give you a small space of grounding in the times you feel you could collapse. Through evidence-based calming kits, tools for grounding, guided meditations (uniquely designed specifically for parents of hospital involved children) and practical resources like meal vouchers and healthy snacks - we provide accessible supports that allow caregivers to steady themselves in real time. Our work is guided by two core objectives:

  1. Enhancing parental wellbeing — equipping parents with tools that reduce stress and foster stability.

  2. Strengthening outcomes for children — recognizing the direct link between the wellbeing of parents and children’s physical and psychological health outcomes.

our core work

Calming Kits

Delivering tools proven to reduce cortisol levels: Aromatherapy intervention, tea and journals to promote both reflection and active clinical participation.

MEditations

Our organization is guided by experts in mental health who also have sat at a child’s hospital bedside. As one of the few groups developing guided meditation interventions specifically for pediatric hospital environments, we create resources that deeply reflect the emotional realities of families navigating their child’s hospitalization.

Meals

Unfortunately, many families face the added stress of affording meals while caring for their child inpatient. To ease this burden, we provide meal vouchers (within our kits) redeemable in families’ home hospital cafeterias (select hospitals are unable to participate in this program). By partnering directly with hospitals, we ensure parents can stay nourished and present at the bedside, without worrying where their next meal will come from.

COMMUNITY

Being a parent of a medically complex or frequently hospitalized child can be extremely lonely. You may have people in your life that are well intended AND that still don’t “get it”.

Keeping this in mind, The Breath Between will be holding monthly virtual meet ups where we can come together and hold space for each other grounded in shared understandings.
